In August 2008 we flew to Bergen for an overnight stay. The following day we joined the Hurtigruten ship ‘Polarlys’ for a 12 day voyage to the far north of Norway, crossing the Arctic Circle. As well as carrying passengers, the ship provides the many ports along the coast with a postal service and cargo.
A ship leaves Bergen every day, so it meant that we passed a ship traveling in the opposite direction every twenty four hours. Our journey took us through magnificent fjord scenery with stops along the way to visit many of the coastal towns and villages.
