Covering a large area of the Bavarian Alps, Bechtesgaden, based on the town of that name is a magnificent national Park.
Visitors flock to see the Kehlstein, otherwise known as the Eagle’s Nest or even the Wolf’s Lair. Access to the top of the mountain is by a road that is plied by special buses that take you to the tunnel cut into the heart of the mountain. A huge brass and mirror lined lift then takes 41 seconds to whisk you up to the very top and some of the finest views to be seen anywhere in the world.
