The center of the town is high above the main road running through it. A constant stream of traffic runs through the streets and motorists run the gauntlet with red uniformed traffic wardens, who greet them with a friendly smile and smart salute before handing out a parking ticket.
To reach the square from our hotel, we climbed steep and winding streets, only to find that there is a lift in each of two multi-storey car parks that are built into the cliff face between the two street levels!
