Achensee

Achensee is the highest of the lakes in the Alps and this very old steam engine is one of two that pushes the carriages up from Jenbach in the valley below to the town of Achensee alongside the lake. Here you can see an engine that has been brought round to the the other end of the carriages so that it can shunt them back down again.

The railway line passes between many houses but the smoke and steam from the trains does not seem to worry the occupants who lean out from their open windows and give a friendly wave.
